Formed in 1999 Icon Information Systems has worked with a wide range of education clients on a variety of projects. We were involved in the bidding, design, building and hardware installation of seven City Learning Centres in London (part of the DfES "Excellence in Cities" Programme). We have subsequently worked with Wandsworth Borough Council on an SRB & Connexions funded project in Tooting & Roehampton where we designed the overall technical architecture - based on RedHat Linux, Open Source applications and thin-client technology; project managed the 18 site installations; and were involved in the ICT aspects of the design of the two "One Stop Shops" which formed part of the project. Another major client is E2BN, the East of England's Regional Broadband Consortium, where we are currently project managing the regional rollout of a caching and filtering solution. The Core and LEA servers have now been installed and are now being used by schools & Libraries in the region. Schools are now able to purchase caches which integrate into the regional caching and filtering infrastructure and provide some local control of the filtering. Icon are also involved in the implementation of the regional VLE and managing a regional Video Confenceing project. LL4Schools

Icon Information Systems will shortly be launching a new service for schools. LL4Schools ("Learning Landscape for Schools") is a Social Networking & blogging service suitable for use in schools. All users accounts will be created at the request of schools who register with us for the service. This means that all accounts and all actions made by a user are traceable. E2BN Filtering Approved

Protex, the E2BN filtering service which is now available to all schools and libraries across the East of England, has been tested by Becta and is now a fully accredited service. All three of the student profiles (Primary, Middle, and Secondary) met the Becta accreditation standard by blocking over 90% of all inappropriate material. It achieved 100% in the Adult, Drugs, and Racist categories and 96% in Hacking and Violence. Schools can purchase a local Protex cache/filtering appliance sure in the knowledge that it has been independently tested and approved for school use.
